A Prayer for the Days of Sadness and Fear

A Prayer for the Days of Sadness and Fear

You are never further away from me than a realization that You are with me.

When I feel nothing more than numb and want to do nothing but cry, You are there.

You are there when I see figures in the shadows and danger in the creaks of an old house.

You are there when all has run out and I think it’s the end, yet somehow life keeps going.

You are there when I feel I have failed, yet I can’t figure out how or why.

You are there in both the petty things and in the things that seem most important to me, even if they are nothing in the grand scheme of things.

You are there when I am all alone, so I am never alone.

You rise above fear, above worry, above doubt, above loneliness. You hold me when I cannot even feel You are near. You keep my head above the waves when I am too weak to lift it myself.

You are my rock and my fortress.

I may have feelings of sadness, but You will use those feelings to draw me closer to You. Let Your love permeate me, find its way through the walls I have put up, and let Your joy seep in through whatever cracks You can find. I am safe with You because You are my fortress. Perhaps today I won’t notice more than a tiny glimmer of light, but in time You will help me experience joy like the sunshine that comes in the summertime.

Help me cling to Your promise of peace, and hold on to that hope that it is there because you promise it is there, even when I cannot feel it.

You love me. You give me joy. You give me peace.

I will remind myself of these truths and pray for them continually until I can allow myself to truly notice them.

You are never further away from me than a realization that You are with me.
