Summer Health Update 2020

Summer Health Update 2020

It’s fitting that as I write this update, I am currently at the beach. It is my summer update, after all. Now, don’t look at me like I am crazy and ask, “But what about the pandemic?!” My family and I are in our own beach house on a semi-private beach, so I’ve been around fewer people this past week than I would have been at home. It’s been a much needed week of rest and family time. That said,…

Spring Health Update 2020

Spring Health Update 2020

Here I sit in my air-conditioned office, hiding from the heat of summer blazing outside these freshly painted walls. It almost seems silly to call this a “spring” update when it’s been summertime for what feels like ages. At the same time, I don’t know how it became June already, let alone July. I’m finally used to writing “June” in my journal, and now it will change again, leaving ink marks where I unthinkingly write the wrong month. But, the…

Winter Health Update

Winter Health Update

It’s been a long winter, y’all. January was pretty quiet. I got a few colds but did my best to stay well for my February 3 appointment at Hershey since we were doing a repeat chest CT to see if what was in my lungs was from a viral infection or if it was whatever has been growing in there. I will note, toward the beginning of the month a lot of my family members got sick with something odd,…

Fall Health Update

Fall Health Update

How strange it is to think that most of December is actually fall, not winter. I feel funny calling this a Fall Health Update because…it’s now after Christmas, but I guess that’s just how it goes. October Thankfully October was a pretty quiet month, I saw my infectious disease doctor but since I had a CT in July we couldn’t get one done then (thanks, insurance), so there really wasn’t much to talk about. We had hoped the results from…

Summer Health Update

Summer Health Update

It seems like it is easiest to do an update every couple of months instead of more frequently because sometimes there is a lot that has changed; other times, not much is different. My last major update was about the bronchoscopy, and to be honest, not a lot has changed since then. I visited my Infectious Disease doctor in July, had a CT done that showed things have changed some, and I had a rib that was healing that I…

June 14 Bronchoscopy

June 14 Bronchoscopy

The results (so far) from my bronchoscopy and the actions taken because of them: Pneumocystis Before I even left the hospital on the 14th I had been diagnosed with pneumocystis. From research I’ve done, it is another fungal infection. I saw a note somewhere in my medical portal that said it is a “rare” pneumocystis, so look at me being all special and everything. No one can say I’m not rare now. How we’re treating it: With a lot of…

Hospital Stays and Control

Hospital Stays and Control

June 13-14 I had a scheduled stay at the hospital. They have wanted me to stay for two nights and I went into the “trip” knowing I did not plan to stay two nights if I could help it. They wanted to do a bronchoscopy to see if I still have mycobacterium growing inside of me. I was as okay with the bronchoscopy as I was going to be, but I was not thrilled about staying the night at the…
